Using the School Safety Management Toolkits  for Training.

 

 

This Option with its'associated Pack provides a set of tools for the School to develop and put in place it’s own systems including School Health Safety Security and Environment Policies. It also contains Checklists to help identify areas of weakness and strengths and to help prioritise and begin to manage its’ Policy development and review.

 

This will help the school respond to its’ responsibilities under the H&S law and Regulations, prove it manages safety .. and especially show that it is responding to the HSC Staff Consultation Policy.

 

When used in conjunction with the online eBriefings delivered by email  the following resources form the Training Materials and Assessments which provide structured training.

8.      Model School Safety Management System.

This resource comprises of integrated system to help manage Health and Safety within the school. It contains all the structures  for :

·          Health and Safety Training

·          Risk Assessment

·          Duties and Responsibilities

·          School Safety Committee

·          Governors

·          Competency and Staff

·          Monitoring, Review and Evauation for Plan

 

In one document and integrated with the School Management Plan, Training Plan and System, Risk Assessment System etc

It is suggested that this System form a basis for staff comment, modification and input to develop the school’s own version. It is meant to provide a framework and models but the school and its’ staff need to have “ownership” of any School System.

Bear in mind HSE’s current policy on Staff participation and Consultation and the need for Policies to be “owned “ by the school.

Identifies strengths and weaknesses in the school current system of Planning.

Use this Checklist to consider what System you have in place i.e. what you are doing now  and what you may need to do.

12.  Model School Emergency Plan

Base line diagnosis and checklist with suggested actions and starting points for a school with little background in H&S management.

Use only in emergency situations and as an aide memoire for diagnosis and as an  indicator for possible actions.

13.  12 Month Model Safety Management Plan

A completed model for Safety Planning for a school with deadlines expected outcomes and actions.

Can be used as a model in most situations and provides evidence of H&S Planning.

14.  Monitoring,Evaluation,Review and Incident/Accident Analysis and Reporting Forms

Separate quantifiable Accident Incident Analysis and Report forms for :

·          Pupils

·          Staff

·          Visitors/Contractors

To track , record and analyse accidents and incidents over time periods within the school

These three forms are devised to be used to help identify areas for improvement and to specify improvements to be made and then incorporated into the Plan.

 

They are also integrated reports for use in reporting to a School Safety Committee and/or to Governors.
